Internet of Things

 

A smart city is a city that uses information and communication technology to improve society. This being how the city operates for the better through technology by having infrastructures using technology, environmental initiatives, helping with traffic, city plans, and more. So Smart city technology is not an app but how a city works as a whole.

I think Smart City technology would transform Chico for the better. While reading this article some things that really intrigued me was how smart parking can help drivers find parking spaces which would be a huge deal for downtown in general or for students of high school and college looking for parking heading to class. 

Another example is having safety measures around the city, lights dimming when we do not need them, lights added in streets that do not have them. Surveillance in high crime areas to have people that walk alone at night have an extra sense of security. 

The last example I think that would really benefit the community is getting warnings about rain or high fog that has occurred as that's when many car accidents happen in Chico. 

With seeing how other countries and states are doing well I think Chico would benefit. I also think that we are already headed in that direction with recently getting cameras to monitor running red lights on intersections.
