The Digital Divide
The digital divide is the divide between those who have access to technology like personal computers and the internet and those who do not. A pro about not having access to the internet is that nowadays people are now going on social media detoxes to help with mental health. I know in another MADT class I took we learned that the older generation did not have as much anxiety as the younger generation solely due to technology. To further this for our exams we all had to go on a social media detox for a week. I failed and so many others but the 3 days I was not on it I completed so much then I have gotten done in a month. However, knowing how to use technology and having access to it is also important. Not knowing how to use technology limits your education, safety factors, and being able to get or complete jobs.
The digital divide greatly affected the world during the pandemic. Lower income households that had people going to schools fell behind because everything was moved online, and they did not have access and everything such as libraries were shut down. This is also the same with the older generation but not because of earnings but due to skills. It creates barriers to get access to essential services like doctors and health implications now that times have changed. It also creates problems when trying to contact family members increasing social isolation.
